Error- Winmail.dat while sending an attachment in Outlook email
Email attachment, sent fine while using web version of outlook
Follow the steps below to fix error while sending email attachment in outlook.
- Change the Mail message format to HTML or Plain Text as shown in the image below. Go to File > Options > Mail option group: Message Format > option: When sending messages in Rich Text format to Internet recipients

NOTE: Outlook must be set to convert Rich Text formatted emails to the HTML or Plain Text message format when sending RTF message to the Internet.
2. Change email properties of the Outlook Contact as show in the image and steps below.

- Inside your outlook’s Contacts folder, double click the item then open the specific contact.
- On the email address of the contact and Address Card you will see a pop-up.
- Then on the right side of the contact card you will see a menu button.
- Click on it after that from the list or drop down select Outlook Properties.
NOTE: Internet format must be set to – Let Outlook decide the best sending format as show in the Image below.

3. Disable Add-Ins in Outlook
If none of the above steps work follow below steps.
- Launch Outlook in safe mode using the command Outlook /safe.
- Send the email again with attachment.
- If the email is sent successfully then you may disable the unwanted Add-Ins from Outlook manually.
- Go to File> Options> Add-Ins

- Now go to Manage drop down list then select the add-ins you want to enable/disable.
- Select Go, then you will see the list of all the add-ins. Here you may uncheck the unwanted Add-ins and then click OK.

- Restart Outlook, as a result you will be able to send attachment in correct format.
